Brunch is Always a Good Idea

Do you know what’s the socially acceptable excuse for day drinking?
— BRUNCH!

Guy Beringer didn’t set out to invent a new meal — he just had a few drinks. So the next time you’re enjoying a delightful brunch, be sure to clink your glass to the meal’s inventor, Guy Beringer, and his inspiration: the hangover.

According to Wikipedia, ‘Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch eaten usually during the late morning to early afternoon, generally served from 11 am –3 pm and regularly has some form of alcoholic drink (most usually champagne or a cocktail) served with it. The word is a portmanteau of breakfast and lunch. Brunch originated in England in the late 19th century and became popular in the United States in the 1930s.

Once a week, a conversation chain of epic proportions germinates in my messanger. It’s a regular call to brunch followed by a scramble to figure where we’re eating; how many people; making a reservation; finding options for unlimited servings of mimosas or sangrias; and if beer is thrown in the mix, too. No mimosas or sangrias usually means a change in venue. Come Sunday morning there’s a round of phone calls and text messages to rally the oversleeping, hung-over and/or otherwise indisposed members of the group. It’s a complicated affair.

In interest of the greater good, and to honour the good things in life, I decided to draw a list of my favourite brunch spots in the city. All you need is a heady
Saturday night and a group willing to brunch with you.

Cheers and Enjoy!
