One beer, two beers, three beers, four? How many pints does it take to get you a high? Not one, for sure. FNL has curated a list of beers that are so potent, you just need one to set your head sailing.
10. Sam Adams Utopias
At 28% ABV, Sam Adams’ sweet and oaky flavour comes from aging it in casks for almost a decade.
9. BrewDog Tactical Nuclear Penguin
The Scottish brew is best enjoyed in small servings, and stands at a firm 32% ABV.
8. Struise Black Damnation VI – Messy
Made from a dark Russian imperial stout beer, this Belgian microbrewery is a 39%
7. Baladin Esprit De Noel
This special “Christmas Spirit” mixes chocolate and wooden flavours to create a straw yellow colour with a powerful ABV of 40%.
6. Sink the Bismarck
An edition of one of the common Brewski battles that BrewDog kept getting into, this even stronger beer made the win at 41% ABV.
5. Koelschip Obilix
A limited brew, this 45% ABV honestly tastes more like cough syrup. However, since it’s a rarity, it’s also a must-try.
4. The End of History
A solid 55% ABV, not only does this BrewDog original come in the most innovative packaging, but it also has the taste of juniper berries, mead and nettles.
3. Schorschbräu Schorschbock
This wax-sealed bottle competed against the BrewDog, and ended up beating it in 2010 at a 43% and then again in 2011 at its true ABV, now at a 57%.
2. Koelschip Start the Future
Created after a month of The End of History beer—its name is an obvious combat. This beer tastes like “someone spilled beer in their whiskey”, but considering its ABV at a 60%, you must try it.
1. Brewmeister Snake Venom
This one takes the bet for the world’s strongest beer and has a taste of whiskey that’s slightly hoppy, with a dangerous ABV of 67.5%! Made with smoke peat malt, the warning label says do not have more than 35ml in one sitting, because one bottle is equivalent to drinking 15 shots of hard liquor. Definitely on my bucket list!
