Estimated read time: < 3 minutes

The ongoing sealing drive by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has now shifted focus to the Meharchand Market, Lodhi Road. The illegally setup  basements and first floors of about 130 shops which includes designer clothing and mobile stores were sealed on Wednesday, January 10th.  These establishments have been sealed for violating the city’s Master Plan 2021.

Commercial units were allowed to carry out operations only on the ground floors but they eventually spread to the first floor and the basements. Hence, these were deemed illegal.

Some of the sealed establishments include the eating outlets like  Nicobar, Subway, Diva Spiced and Cafe Coffee Day. The Artesenia showroom, Truefill & Hill Salon, the wellness center Liquid Sanctuary  and Ruh are some of the other shops that got sealed. The two banks, State Bank of India and Dena Bank have been given a week’s notice to close their operations, failing which these two will be sealed as well.
